Celebrating Women’s History Month: Meet Kristal Thomson

Today is the last day of our Women’s History Month celebration and we conclude with Shareholder Kristal Thomson.  Kristal is a Board Certified Family Lawyer, an incredibly active member of the State Bar of Texas, and is one of only ten lawyers in San Antonio elected as a fellow to the prestigious American Academy of Matrimonial Lawyers.

Do you have a woman, inside or outside the practice of law, who inspires (or inspired) you in life?

A long time ago I opened my mind to being inspired by any and every woman that I had the pleasure to know. Fortunately for me, I’m in a profession and community where female clients, colleagues and friends are easy to come by. Every day it’s a different woman (or many) that counsels, encourages, and influences me or my decisions.

What interested you in practicing law?

I was pretty young when I “decided” I wanted to be a lawyer, so I don’t remember if there was an event or person that sparked my interest. (Later in life I was enamored by the same legal heroes as anyone else – Atticus Finch, RBG, etc. But I didn’t know about any of them when I declared my future at 8 years old.) I became interested in family law while I was in law school. I had great law professors for community property and family law that made the practice sound like hard work, but interesting and rewarding hard work. And it is!

What is your favorite book?

Has anyone said Texas Pattern Jury Charges yet? No? Interesting. Whichever historical biography I am currently reading.

What is your favorite quote?

“There’s no substitute for hard work. If you work hard and prepare yourself, you might get beat, but you’ll never lose.” – Nancy Lieberman

What makes L&B a great place to work?

L&B provides attorneys with the flexibility to handle cases and clients the way they want while still maintaining the highest legal standards and professionalism. This is invaluable in the practice of family law and unusual in a firm of this size.
