In honor of Black History Month, I would like to recognize Thomas Sowell – a fascinating American writer and economist who grew up in Harlem, poor, with a problematic home life. He dropped out of high school, but somehow pursued change and persevered. He attended night classes and spent time in libraries, and with help along the way, Thomas graduated from Harvard with a degree in economics and a master’s degree from Columbia. I find his common sense and way of describing everything from politics to economics to education to poverty to race very real and interesting, prolific and understandable. He is an inspiration!
