In honor of Black History Month, I would like to pay tribute to the late, great, trailblazer, Cicely Tyson. Cicely has always influenced me as she profoundly exemplified black excellence with such amazing grace, dignity and resilience. She humbly used her career as a platform for blacks to be seen as human beings.
In a recent interview, Tyson was asked what she wanted us to remember about her and she replied, “I did my best.” With each passing day, my aim in life is to be humble, gracious and faithful, while doing my very best!
Cicely Tyson was also a beloved soror who helped mold a legacy to make Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. into a powerful force – more than a sorority.
